How Does Spray Foam Insulation Work?
Spray foam expands between 30 and 120 times in volume as it is sprayed. It is an excellent solution for filling in even the smallest cracks, while fully adhering to and providing a continuous, airtight seal.
Spray foam benefits as a sound control barrier and is superior in its mould-resistant properties.
Why Choose Spray Foam Insulation?
The benefits of spray foam are endless. Whether your structure is agricultural, residential or commercial choose the best investment with Greener Solutions.
Benefits:
- Helps prevent mould, fungi and moisture by eliminating condensation build-up
- Reduction of the presence of allergens
- Water and moisture resistant
- Provides a seamless and maintenance-free air barrier
- Provides a sound barrier by absorbing sound vibration
- Reduces heating and air conditioning costs
- Supplies the highest R-Value per inch
- Qualifies as a vapour barrier
- Provides healthy living by improving indoor air quality
- Reduces environmental impact
- Does not shrink, settle or sag over time
- Reduces drafts, cold and hot spots
- Increases energy savings by up to 50% in residential and commercial buildings
What is the R-Value of Spray Foam Insulation?
The R-Value is a measure of how well an insulation product resists the flow of heat and cold through it.
- Open cell foam has an R-Value of approximately 3.7 per inch
- Closed cell foam has an R-Value of approximately 7.0 per inch.
The Benefits of Agricultural Spray Foam
The benefits of Greener Solutions Spray Foam are endless and include:
- An increase in energy cost savings. You will see reduced power consumption for temperature-controlled facilities.
- Reduced Maintenance. You will see a decrease in dependence on refrigeration equipment.
- No condensation. Avoid the risk of mould developing in uninsulated tanks.
- Long-lasting. Spray foam insulation is a long-term investment that quickly pays for itself.
- Temperature Control. Spray foam performs equally well in both hot and cold environments.
The benefits of spray foam are undeniable. Rest assured you are getting the best value for your investment with Greener Solutions.
Environmental Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation
Greener Solutions uses spray foam free of formaldehyde that does not release emissions in order to protect the surrounding environment. Foam improves the air quality in your home freeing you from exposure to contaminants, allergens or other health risks. Just as we care about the safety of the environment, we care about the safety of you and your family/employees.
Air moves in and out of a home through every crack and crevice. Approximately one-third of air infiltrates through walls, ceilings and floors and approximately 56% of the energy used in a typical residential setting is from heating and cooling. These numbers are drastically reduced by the use of spray foam.
Spray foam is the most cost-effective solution to improve energy efficiency and comfort by sealing and insulating the shell of your home.
What is Closed Cell Spray Foam?
At Greener Solutions Spray Foam we use closed cell spray foam. The closed cell spray foam weighs in at 2 pounds per foot and is rigid. In closed cell spray foam, the blowing agent is trapped inside the closed cells to increase the R-Value of the foam. When sprayed, the two-part liquid expands about 30 to 40 times its size in a matter of seconds. The general R-Value of most closed cell foams is 6 to 7 per inch. After 2 inches closed cell spray foam can be used as a vapour retarder. Closed cell foam creates an air seal and is an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor projects.
The closed-cell spray foam is very durable and has a tensile strength of about 25 pounds per square inch. Increase the strength of your building while investing in insulating your structure.
What is Open Cell Spray Foam?
At Greener Solutions Spray Foam we offer open cell spray foam as another option. With its low density, it is semi-rigid and weighs in at a half pound per cubic foot.
Open cell foam uses water as a blowing agent and is for indoor use only. The cells are open so it relies on trapping the air inside the foam which then insulates the air seal. The water in the foam increases the reaction process response. There are no toxic gases used or released in the process. Open cell spray foam is ideal for new construction, remodels, agricultural buildings and commercial settings.
Open cell spray foam expands approximately 120 times itself and cures into place in seconds. Open cell has the best cost per R-value of spray foam insulation. Most open cell foams have an R-value of 3.5 to 4.5 per inch and it is hydrophobic so it repels water.
There are no ozone-affecting chemicals such as:
- CFC, HCFC, fibres, VOCs, formaldehyde or asbestos are released during the spray of open cell foam.
Which spray foam is used in Pole Barn & Post Frame Buildings?
Spray foam expands between 30 and 120 times in volume as it is sprayed. It is an excellent solution for filling in even the smallest cracks, while fully adhering to and providing a continuous, airtight seal.
Spray foam benefits as a sound control barrier and is superior in its mould-resistant properties.
Can spray foam be used in metal buildings?
Interest is growing in the use of spray foam for metal buildings or pole barns.
Condensation coming from the roof underside is a large concern for those with these types of buildings. The condensation can cause a variety of issues from irritating rain drops on your head to damage to expensive equipment.
This issue is caused by warm, moist air making contact with a cold surface. All standard pole barns either have a concrete floor or a dirt floor and this is where a lot of the moisture enters your barn. Most concrete floors in metal buildings do not have a vapour barrier installed underneath them.
Without a vapour barrier moisture is drawn from the dirt underneath and up through the concrete (known as the stack effect). If a vapour barrier is not installed before the concrete is poured, that is no longer a viable solution to your condensation issues. Spray foam can stop condensation in its tracks keeping you and your equipment dry.
